Christopher Michael Edwards, 39, was held at Scotland Correctional Institution in Laurinburg, North Carolina. The North Carolina Department of Adult Corrections and the sheriff's office said staff found him with multiple stab wounds around 9 p.m. on April 30, 2024, in a housing unit common area, and that another person held there had assaulted him. He was pronounced dead around 10:30 p.m. The department is conducting an internal investigation, and local law enforcement is also investigating the death.
