Charles Edward Singleton
Charles Edward Singleton was 74 when he died while held at an Alabama prison. His family, who are suing the Alabama Department of Corrections and the University of Alabama System, say his organs were missing when his body was returned after an autopsy at UAB, and that they never gave permission for their removal. In January 2026 the Alabama Supreme Court dismissed most of the family's claims, including tort and conversion claims, as barred by the statute of limitations. The court allowed one claim under the Alabama Uniform Anatomical Gift Act to proceed.
