Cecelia Covarrubias
Cecelia Covarrubias, 41, of Santa Ynez, died in an isolation cell at the Main Jail in Santa Barbara County in November 2024. She told jail mental health workers that her children gave her reason to live. Her family's claim against the county says she was on suicide watch, that jail staff had been warned of signs of her risk, and that staff were slow to respond after she was found hanging. The county has not yet responded to the claim, and a state review panel is examining the jail's response.
