Bert Dudley
Bert Dudley was held in the jail at Olathe, Kansas, when a masked mob arrived by automobile early on September 21, 1916. The sheriff refused to give him up but was overpowered, and the mob battered down three jail doors to reach him. The mob took Dudley to a telephone pole on the edge of town, where they hanged him and then shot his body. The attorney general and county attorney opened an investigation, and the county coroner was conducting an inquest, but investigators had found few clues to the identity of any mob member.
