Bennie Simrnons
Bennie Simmons, an 18-year-old Black man, was held in the Anadarko county jail in Caddo County, Oklahoma. According to the Mena Weekly Star, a mob of about a thousand people took him early on June 13, 1913, hanged him from a tree near the railroad bridge, and burned his body after it was soaked in oil. The Pine Bluff Daily Graphic reported that the sheriff moved him from the county jail to the old government prison as a crowd approached, and that the mob took him from there. The papers differ on where he was held when the mob reached him, and the Imperial Valley Press dispatch reports only that a mob took him from the jail and lynched him.
