Angela Zuniga

33 years old · died February 28, 2016 · West Valley Detention Center, San Bernardino County, California

Angela Zuniga, 33, was the mother of seven children, and her mother, Sandra Lugo, is now raising her two youngest sons. Zuniga died on February 28, 2016, at West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga, about 18 days after giving birth by C-section while in custody. Lugo said her daughter complained of dizziness and pain, collapsed, and was not taken to a hospital for hours. The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department said the cause of death was still pending because the autopsy report was incomplete, and the family was still waiting for answers a year later.

Cause of death, as reported: Cause not yet determined (neglect alleged). Her mother, Sandra Lugo, says staff did not take Angela to a hospital for hours after she complained of dizziness and pain and collapsed, while the sheriff's department says the cause of death is still pending.

Reported by: Angela's mother, Sandra Lugo (family or their lawyers).
