Alexander Lewis, 22, died on December 7, 2023, at the Sedgwick County Detention Facility in Wichita, Kansas, where he was held pretrial. Around 5:30 a.m., he was found unresponsive in Pod 18, and staff, on-site medical personnel and EMS tried lifesaving measures before he was pronounced dead. The sheriff's office said preliminary reports indicate he died from self-inflicted asphyxiation. The Kansas Bureau of Investigation and the sheriff's office are investigating the death.
