Died in jail or a lockup
Albert Howard
Albert Howard was hanged on March 18, 1921, at the Gonzales County Jail in Gonzales, Texas, where he was being held. According to a museum account, it was the last hanging carried out in Gonzales County and in that jail. A local legend holds that while he was in the jail he fixed his attention on the courthouse clock and swore his innocence would be shown by it, and that the clock would never keep the same time again if he was hanged. This legend is an account passed down locally, not a record of his trial or his own words.
